Lawn Maintenance Tips

Here are some of my favorite lawn maintenance tips that you should always apply to your lawn all year round.

  • Make sure you cut the grass by less than 2cm. You will not need to use a catcher if you do this and the grass clippings act as a mulching agent.

  • When you go away on holiday, make sure you cut the grass before you go and have it cut while you are away. Make sure not to fertilize before you go away as it will grow too quickly.

  • If your lawn is not used a lot, use a slow release lawn feed but don't use as much as a heavily trafficked lawn.

  • If you want a green lawn in summer, make sure you soak the ground deeply as watering the top of the grass with a sprinkle of the hose is just a waste of water.

  • Leaves left on your lawn after a few weeks will turn your lawn yellowish. Gather them up as quickly as you can.

    Backyard Landscaping Tips
    • Think Four Seasons: When designing your backyard landscape, remember that there are four seasons. You will want flowers and shrubs which bloom during different times of the season, autumn foliage during the fall, and a structure that can withstand the winter.

    • Plan before you dig a water garden. Before you even start to think of digging to put in a water garden, make sure you plan everything in advance. Dimensions, the type of water garden you want to have, how deep it will need to be and if you need any permits to do so. If in doubt, call a professional out to help you. That's why they are there.

    • Get the right supplies for the job. Make sure you always get the exact right supplies you need for the job at hand. Don't skimp on quality when you are landscaping your backyard as you will pay dearly for it in the long run.
